- How do I sign up for the Sempra Employee Giving Network and donate to the charity of my choice?
- I searched for my favorite charity but could not find it listed. How can I have my favorite charity added so that I can begin a pledge to it?

FAQ for employees - technical questions
1. How do I sign up for the Sempra Employee Giving Network and donate to the charity of my choice?
To make an online pledge through Sempra Employee Giving Network:
- If you are on the Sempra Network, please click here. If you are a Sempra Global employee or an employee not on the Sempra Network, click here. Or, if you prefer to complete a paper pledge form, please complete “option c” on this form to submit your pledge.
- Scroll down until you see “I want to find my own - you can search by name or by category:”
- Begin with only one or two words of the charity name or the name of the city where the charity is located.
- HINT: We recommend you begin with only one or two words of the charity name, as the search begins looking for an exact match. For example, you may not know if the legal name of the charity is “Charity Y” or “San Diego Charity Y” or “Charity Y of Greater San Diego” of “Charity Y- San Diego Chapter”.
- When you find the charity you want to support, select “Donate”.
- You’ll see options which you can specify for this pledge.
- Select the amount to be designated next pay period.
- Select whether this is to be an on-going or one-time pledge.
- Select whether you prefer that we share your name with the charity to let them know who the donation is from, or whether you prefer to be anonymous.
- Scroll down to Select “Click Here to Continue” at the bottom of the page, to proceed to the pledge summary page.
- You’ll have one more opportunity to review your selections, before final confirmation of your pledge.

2. I searched for my favorite charity but could not find it listed. How can I have my favorite charity added so that I can begin a pledge to it?
If after searching for your charity as described in the response to question 1 above, it appears that your favorite charity is not listed:
You can have your charity sign-up and provide all their information, including a mission statement and their logo, by asking them to go to: www.smartchange.org to sign up to be added to the database of approved charities! OR
You can add the charity information yourself by following these steps:
- Select the box (at the beginning of the search results) that says “If you cannot find the charity you were looking for, we will add it for you. Please click here to have your charity added to the list.”
- If for some reason, you do not see the box with this text, select “Payroll Giving” from the very top of the screen to return to the charity search screen. Input “XYZ” in the charity name field and then select the box (at the beginning of the search results) that says: “If you cannot find the charity you were looking for, we will add it for you. Please click here to have your charity added to the list.”
- You’ll be asked for the charity’s information including:
- Legal name
- Also known As name
- IRS EIN, also known as “Tax ID number”, or “Registration Number”
- Street address, city, state and zip
- Phone,
- A contact name (first and last name)
- Charity’s email
- Charity’s web site
- You’ll also be asked for your email so that a confirmation of the validation of that charity can be forwarded to you.
- It may take up to 10 working days to validate a charity.
- Once you receive the confirmation email stating that your charity has been added, repeat steps found in Response #2, above, to begin your pledge.

3. I want to change the amount of my pledge to my favorite charity. How do I increase, decrease or cancel my pledge?
To change the amount of one pledge through Sempra Employee Giving Network:
- Once you are logged into the Sempra Network, select [SEGN] to log in to Sempra Employee Giving Network
- Select “My Payroll Giving History” from the “MY GIVING” section on the left column. You’ll see the following information on the screen:
- Giving History
- Payroll Donations
- Next cut-off date for payroll instructions
- Deduction from your next salary
- Active donation instructions (followed by an icon to VIEW)
- Note the “Action Legend” in the bottom right side of the screen.
- To see the detail for your current donations, select the View from the “Active Donation Instructions” line.
You’ll see details regarding your pledge. See the “Status Legend”, “Type Legend” and “Action Legend” to find the meaning of the icons. You’ll also see:
- Pledge date (we moved to our new system effective 1 January 2009 so many pledges will show this date)
- Pledge number (located just below pledge date)
- An indicator regarding whether this is an active pledge, whether you would like your name as a donor shared with the charity, whether this is an on-going or one-time pledge, the amount of the pledge scheduled for the next pay period.
- In the action column, you’ll find icons to modify or cancel your pledge
- To increase or decrease the amount for each pay period designated to this charity, select Modify and follow the steps through confirmation of the new amount.
- To cancel this pledge, select Cancel and follow the steps through confirmation of the cancellation.
4. If I have the organization's tax id number but I don't know the official/legal name of the organization, how do I find it in the system?
In the "Free Word Search" box, please type in the organization's IRS tax id (also known as EIN) number. The "Free Word Search" can be used to find all other character strings in a Charity Profile including all charities on a street or in a city.
