Grant Seekers FAQs

We support tax-exempt, nonprofit organizations that are recognized by the Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c)(3); serve communities where we have established businesses and employees; and align with our guidelines.

To further our efforts to help the environment and conserve our natural resources, we only accept applications for funding using the online application form. It's easy to apply. Simply complete an online application. Remember to upload your board of directors and program financials prior to hitting the “submit” button for the application. To access the online application, please visit the Grant-seeker’s page.

If you have an electronic version of your organization's financials and board of directors, you need to attach it to your online application. If you don’t have an electronic version of your financials, please proceed with the online application process and fax over your program financials and board-of-directors information to 1-619-696-1868.

There are no deadlines for submitting applications. Grants applications are reviewed throughout the year.

After submitting your online application, you’ll receive a confirmation and tracking number. If you have any problems, please send us an email at [email protected].

Applications that have been started, but haven’t been submitted are considered "open." To edit or submit an "open" application, log in to our online grant-request system and click on the application name. Please note: Applications that haven’t been updated in more than 120 days will be automatically deleted.

Applications submitted online are reviewed on an ongoing basis by the local advisory council for the county/region your request supports. Local advisors may contact you to request a site visit as part of their due diligence. Their recommendations are approved by the board every other month.

Generally, the timeline to review and assess each application can take from two to six months, depending on the volume of requests received at any time.

Our local advisory councils are made up of volunteers who work hard to make timely decisions and communicate those decisions as quickly as they can.

You may apply as many times as you'd like throughout the year, but, generally, we’ll award only one grant to a charity per region per calendar year.

Please apply for what your organization feels it needs for the program or event. The Sempra Employee Giving Network (SEGN) will decide the grant amount based on the content of the application, supplemental information and other internal/external factors. On average, grants given by SEGN range from $500 to $2,500.
